Yateley Silverbacks Basketball Club History

Creation of the club

  • The club was established in 2010 to provide its members with the pleasure of playing basketball, irrespective of their skill level
  • The club will provide its members with competitive and friendly fixtures to all standards
  • The club has close links to Yateley Manor Prep school, Yateley, Hants

Current Status

  • Men's 1st team playing in the Wessex League Division 1.
  • Men's 2nd team playing in Wessex League Division 3.
  • Mixed 3rd team playing in Wessex League Division 3
  • Ladies team playing in Wessex Ladies League Division 2.
  • Youth U12's playing in Southern CVL
  • Home court is at Yateley Manor School. Home fixtures and training sessions are on Sunday afternoons and Monday & Wednesday evenings
  • Club has several sponsors: Raj Tandoori, Zone Creations, Experience Insight, Sowerbutts & Co ltd and Westlab.
  • Player recruitment ongoing, currently 35+ playing members plus numerous training members.

Development Plan

  • Short Term Plan (3 years) – to consolidate 1st team as regulars in Wessex Division 1; to get the 2nd team promoted to Wessex Division 2; to fully integrate the Ladies team into the Club and ensure they maintain their Division 1 status; to establish more links with the community and gain more sponsorship.
  • Medium Term Plan  (3-5 years) – to grow the club to include a third team particularly focused on developing junior players and providing competitive experience at a senior level.

  • Long Term Plan (3-10 years) – to establish club so far that it is producing National league players and/or playing National League.

- Wessex League Division 2: Runner Up - Promoted to Division 1

2nd team:
- Wessex League Division 3: 7th

Ladies team:
- Wessex Ladies League Division 2: 7th

2014/15
1st team:
- Wessex League Division 1: 8th - relegated to Division 2

2nd team:
- Wessex League Division 3: 6th

Ladies team:
- Wessex Ladies League Division 1: 6th - relegated to Division 2

2013/14
1st team:
- Wessex League Division 2: Won 17, Lost 4 (Champions - promoted to Division 1)
- Karl Taylor Cup: Losing Semi Finalists
- Wessex Div 2 Play Offs: Runners Up

2nd team:
- Wessex League Division 3: Won 4, Lost 14 (9th)
